What is Permanent Jewelry and how is it applied?
Permanent jewelry, also referred to as clasp-less jewelry, welded jewelry, forever jewelry, is a piece of jewelry that is custom fit to the customer and welded on. That is the, straight to the point, answer. When you have a jewelry session we start off with choosing what chain/s you like. I will size the chain to your wrist or other desired location, and attach it with a jump ring.
At this point, no welding is done. You will feel it on, and check the fit, and we can adjust it from here.
Once we have the perfect size, it will be time to weld it. The weld of your jewelry is done with a small welder that is made for jewelry. The spark is little, but mighty.
You will not feel a thing, and it does not hurt. The weld itself is fast. With one or two zaps we are set. I always test the weld spot by pulling in both ways to make sure it is secure. A typical session will take about 15 minutes. It can take longer if we add charms, connectors or additional jewelry pieces.
What type of chains are available for Permanent Jewelry?
Let's talk a little about each type of chains. All of the chains that we use are "fine" jewelry. They will not change your skin color, and they are lead and nickel free. The most popular type of chains to use for permanent jewelry are .925 Sterling Silver, 14K Gold Filled, Rose Gold, and pure 14K gold.

The most expensive option is Gold. While many would love this option, it can get spendy fast. When doing gold we charge by the inch for each piece due to the price of purchasing it. We do not stock it, like we do all the other options, but it is available upon request. Price range for 14K gold bracelets will start at $200 and up.
Gold filled chain is the next best thing when you love that gold color. Gold-filled jewelry is jewelry composed of a solid layer of gold mechanically bonded to a base of either sterling silver or some base metal. - Wikipedia Gold filled jewelry has a content that is 50-100 times higher than that of gold plated. Because of the higher content of gold in the jewelry it is more resistant to scratches & oxidation. Gold filled is also hypoallergenic, so if you are not allergic to gold, you can wear this jewelry. The gold layer on gold filled jewelry is so thick, you don't have to worry about it ever wearing off or flaking, it will keep it's gorgeous color. Our gold filled bracelets will start at $65
If you are a silver jewelry girl, then Sterling Silver it is! The quality and shine of .925 silver is undoubtably beautiful. The .925 in short terms means, 92.5% of that piece is made from pure silver. The other 7.5% is made from another metal, most times copper due to its strength and ability to not turn the silver a different color. Silver in it's purest form is very weak and malleable, making it too soft for jewelry, thus the reason it is bonded with another metal. You do not need to worry about it changing your skin colors. Silver will tarnish though in certain conditions. Certain chemicals can tarnish the chain very fast. Hot tubs, pools, certain cleaning supplies, and other chemicals can tarnish your chain. They are simple to clean if this happens, and the chain will go back to its beautiful shiny state! Our sterling silver bracelets will start at $55.
Rose gold is the newest trend when it comes to jewelry. It is made very similar to gold filled except instead of karat gold, the rose gold metal outer layer is made from 14kt rose gold alloy surface layer, which is 58% gold, 36% copper, 5% silver and 1% zinc. Our rose gold bracelets start at $65.
At On Trend, we currently do not use any chain that is "plated". We pride ourselves in high quality, long lasting permanent jewelry. You can guarantee our chains are made from Gold filled or Sterling Silver. We have contemplated bringing in Stainless Steal as a less expensive alternative for those who do not want to pay $50+ for a welded jewelry piece. Stay tuned to the blog to find out if we start to offer that option.
What is the difference between welded jewelry and some others?
As permanent jewelry has become more popular, some companies have jumped on the bandwagon. There are a few companies out there that offer "permanent jewelry" through an mlm type company. I have NO judgement against these companies, I was with a different mlm for 7 years. Although they mention that their pieces are permanent, you must know they are not actually welded on. I can not speak for what they actually do as I am not with them. But from what I understand they are kept on via a jump ring that is put together. Similar to permanent jewelry, in a way. Difference is that with permanent jewelry, the jump ring is "attached" the same way, but it is then welded on. This making it "permanent". Other difference is that many of these companies only use stainless steel and plated stainless steal chain. Whereas we are using fine gold filled and sterling silver. Both options are great and offer you beautiful jewelry. It is you as a customer to choose and understand the differences in everything before purchasing.
What if I you need to remove your permanent jewelry for medical reasons or travel?
Many customers have asked this question, and it is very simple. First, the jewelry is very fine and dainty, you do not have to remove it for travel. It is TSA friendly. As far as medical procedures, the jewelry will need to be removed in most cases. All you have to do is take a scissors or wire cutter and cut the jump ring at the weld spot. Save the chain in a baggie, and we can re-weld it back on when you are ready! Simple as that ;)

How long will your Permanent Jewelry last?
It is difficult to answer this question in a simple, straight forward answer. The answer is, it will be different for everyone. Every person has a different work life, active life, and home life. Permanent jewelry is "fine jewelry" and is most often made with dainty chain. While the jewelry is very durable, it is still "fine jewelry" and breaks can happen. The reason we use dainty chain is so if you do get it caught on something, it WILL break, instead of you getting hurt. If you have a chain that is big and bulky and would never break off in a bad situation, it is a health/body risk. In a perfect world your welded jewelry will last forever! Realistically, it will last for years or however long you wish it to.
Where can permanent jewelry be applied?
You can get your claspless jewelry applied to many locations. Most popular is bracelets! Have one, or many! I love the look of mixing and matching different materials. Here are some gold and silver bracelets on me.

Another popular location to get your jewelry is and anklet. A forever anklet is fun and a simple way to accessorize! You can get forever rings, necklaces and even belly chains.
